The Dial

The phoenix of the tropical forest, captured in cloisonné enamel.

The cloisonné dial depicts the great hornbill in vivid detail. Fine gold or silver wires are shaped by hand to outline each feather, beak and casque, then filled with multiple layers of vitreous enamel and fired at over 800°C. The result is a miniature painting with an extraordinary depth of colour that will never fade.

The Craft

Cloisonné Enamel

Cloisonné is among the most demanding enamel techniques in horology. Hair-thin metal wires — cloisons — are bent freehand and fixed to the dial base, forming tiny cells. Each cell is filled with powdered glass enamel, dried, and kiln-fired repeatedly. A single dial can require dozens of firings, with the constant risk of cracking or colour distortion.

The Story

Behind Hong Hoang Bird

On the cloisonné enamel dial, the great hornbill — often called the "phoenix of the tropical forest" — is brought to life with its striking golden casque and contrasting black-and-white wings, capturing the wild elegance and regal charm of this iconic bird. Known for its life-long pair bonding, the hornbill symbolizes fidelity and enduring love, perfectly mirroring the timeless spirit of a fine mechanical watch. The presence of the hornbill also evokes luck and abundance, as it plays a key role in nurturing the rainforest, making every glance at the dial a reminder of the beauty of nature and the essence of time.
